French designer Piergil Fourquie 's latest project the Maiko hand fan is inpired by the classic Japanese Uchiwa bamboo and paper fans. The name Maiko refers to apprentice geisha who performs songs, dances, and playing the shamisen three-stringed Japanese instrument for visitors during feasts. The shape of the Maiko hand fan is round which is taken from the traditional bamboo and paper fans called "Uchiwa".
